Abstractions
Kahl's collection of abstractions was born out of the deep need to process/understand the Covid-19 global pandemic at it's conception. During a time when escapism felt selfish and indulgent, she pivoted towards abstraction as a way to bring attention to different disasters happening all over the world. What started as an deep-dive into learning about the Flu Pandemic of 1918 quickly turned into a more inclusive body of work that draws attention to world events such as BLM protests, wildfires in Australia, and the journey of Afghan Refugees to the United States.
Aptly entitled "Social Distortion," this collection expresses Kahl's sincere hope that these pieces will provide viewers the space to sit with their feelings around such events as a means to action, peace, and personal resolution.
